Tableau public is a very uniques platform where anyone can create their profile and start publishing their work onto a public server using Tableau Public Desktop software. You can even download the visualizations to backtrack how it was built and what tricks were used. On your account, you can control the download functionality of your own published visualization. And you also get 10GB!...yes 10 GB of space on your public account. Isn't that great?
Now, to create more user engagement and bringing in a more creative & analytical side of the developers/ viz designers, tableau started giving recognition to a good visualization which focuses on new features and creativity, which is capable to drive the story and data analysis, along with good design and is attractive to the end-user to get more interested in the analysis of the presented data.
Via VOTD Tableau appreciates the efforts put in by Tableau Enthusiasts in creating public visualizations. And it publishes the viz on social media and sends it to subscribed emails.
Earlier I emphasize Why Community Initiatives are so important for someone who is new to Tableau and wanted to learn more. The impact of these initiatives along with the community engagement is so much that someone with very little experience in Tableau can improve drastically on Data visualization and Storytelling.
Further to that thought, I am creating a Month In VOTD series where I will discuss the dashboards which are built by the community in the previous month and are endorsed by tableau by selecting them as Visualization Of The Day. I will not break down the workbook but I will share the important aspects/tricks used which I find helpful. Stay Tuned.
